Ellicottville Hotels & Motels
Shake off the winter blues in the town of Ellicottville, New York, where snow is celebrated and there’s always plenty to do both during the day and when the sun goes down. Ellicottville is known for its ski resorts, but there’s more to do here than hit the slopes. The main village has more than its share of eclectic boutiques and shops, not to mention a wide range unique eateries and lively bars, particularly along Washington and Monroe streets where most of the action happens in Ellicottville.
Winter is when the town is most alive, but there’s plenty to do in summer too—be sure visit one of the parks, take a hike in the surrounding wilderness or enjoy the annual rodeo in July.
ORIENTATION
Unlike some mountain towns, Ellicottville is easy to get to, as it’s only about 71 mi (115 km south of the large city of Buffalo, where the international airport provides regular flights to other major cities across North America.
WHERE TO STAY
Visitors have two choices when finding accommodations in Ellicottville: They can stay in the village itself, which is easily walkable and offers hassle-free access to all the shops and services the town offers; or they can stay outside of the village at a ski hill such as Holiday Valley.
Village Accommodation
Within the village, there are plenty of options. Edelweiss Lodge on Jefferson Street provides clean and comfortable rooms and suites, either in the main lodge or in one of the nearby cottages. In the winter, guests can heat up and socialize around the large firepit, and in the summer they can stay active in the pool or on the tennis courts. The nearby Ellicottville Wingate Inn has a few more amenities, such as an indoor pool with hot tub, a fitness center, a business kiosk and a complimentary hot breakfast. Over on Washington Street, the smaller Kelly House Lodge provides over a dozen guest rooms, plus a bunk house for larger groups. They have an onsite diner and lounge to round out the experience. If none of those will do, Ellicottville village also has a number of bed and breakfasts, such as the Jefferson Inn and the Ilex Inn.
Village Outskirts Accommodation
Holiday Valley, located about the mile outside of the village, is another place where hotel options abound, and although you’ll need a car to get here, staying near the ski resort makes it easy to maximize your time on the slopes. The Tamarack Hotel provides a range of suites, chalets and regular rooms that can accommodate families of any size, all within easy walking distance of the chairlifts and main lodge. Amenities include a year-round indoor-outdoor pool, two hot tubs, a health club, a sauna and an on-site restaurant and lounge. Nearby, the Inn at Holiday Valley has 95 rooms to choose from, and provides a complimentary breakfast to guests. After the ski day is done, there’s a hot tub to soak those sore muscles in and free Wi-Fi to catch up on the latest news with. Across the street from the inn sits the Telemark Motel, a budget-friendly option with an equally superb location. They provide a range of standard rooms as well as an A-Frame chalet, and the on-site pub is popular with ski bums and travelers alike.
